The Sustainable North Carolina Awards, now in its eighth year, is one of the most widely recognized programs honoring those who are integrating social responsibility and environmental stewardship with sound financial performance. We are proud to showcase innovative efforts in North Carolina that are building long-term, sustainable prosperity.

In keeping with the 2009 theme of “Inspiring Innovation,” this year’s program featured several new features:

  • Nominee profiles appear online where everyone can comment and ask questions

  • Finalists presented at breakout sessions on the day of the Awards ceremony. The audience had the opportunity to talk with the nominees about their work and to discuss opportunities and barriers for sustainable innovation

  • Event attendees selected the winner of the brand new “SparK Award”:  Walking Fish

  • The reception featured local food prepared by some of our area’s most creative chefs and accompanied by award-winning wines from Biltmore Estates. Accepting our "Sustainability Challenge" were Green Planet Catering, Square Rabbit, and Kaplan Catering...and the audience’s choice was Green Planet Catering!
